My current
research focuses on contemporary African American artists, in particular, Black
women artists. My doctoral aesthetic inquiry examines how selected visual
artists of African and Native American descent use cultural imaginings, visual
explorations, and reflection in their art work to elaborate their cultural
identity. Dissertation title: Elaborating Cultural Identity: Imaginal World
Making of Selected Ethnocentered Artists (NYU, 1997).
