BACHELOR of ART in ART
In addition to the University's
General Education Requirements,
you must complete the
Core Courses,
pass the
Department's Portfolio Review,
and, in consultation with your advisor, develop a
Individual Planned Program of Study. A minimum of 45 credits must
be taken at CCSU to meet the residency requirements, 24 of which
must be in your major. Total program credits: 122 - 130 including
electives.
Summary of the B.A. in Art Program
Core Courses (21 Credits)
You must take 21 credits in core art courses. The core includes:
Art112, Art 113, Art 120, Art 124, Art 130, Art 216, Art 230
Portfolio Review and Essay (Pass/Fail)
You are required to submit a portfolio of works for consideration by
the Art faculty. Students whose portfolios do not meet standards
will be required to take supplemental courses. No student will be
allowed to proceed on to a 300-level (or higher) studio course
without a successful portfolio review. Portfolio due dates are the
first Friday in October for the Fall and the first Friday in March
for the Spring.
Individual Planned Program of Study (18 credits)
You will meet with your advisor each semester. Together, you and
your advisor will develop an Individual Planned Program of Study.
This group of courses will be chosen based on your individual
aesthetic interest. The Planned Program must include a minimum of
nine (9) sequential credits in one area and the Planned Program Form
must be signed by your advisor. Additionally, any changes made to
your Planned Program must be submitted in writing on a “Planned
Program Revision Form” and signed by your advisor. Note: Students
wishing to focus on Art History should contact the Art Department
for specific requirements.
Directed Electives of Minor (18 credits)
You are required to complete 18 credits of major-related electives.
These courses will be selected in consultation with your advisor OR
you can choose to complete a minor (18 cr.) in another department.
Advanced Level Coursework (15 credits)
During your program for the B.A. in Art, you must complete a minimum
of fifteen (15) credits in advanced level Art courses at the
300-level or above.
General Electives
You must complete addition coursework, either within or outside of
the Art department, to earn a minimum of 122 credits required for
graduation.
Capstone (3 credits)
You are required to successfully complete Art 499 Capstone during
your last semester.
Graduation Application and Final Planned Program
· You must to apply for graduation in the Office of the
Registrar ONE year prior to graduation.
· At that time, you should inform your advisor that you are
applying for graduation.
Your advisor will then submit a signed copy of your Planned Program
Form to the Art Office to be included in your degree evaluation for
graduation.
