Artist's Statement
My journey in art has become an exploration of life and life
experiences. The abstracting and constructing process of
art making directs me to explore negative and positive
spatial arrangements. By doing so, interesting points of
departure are created from the original concept. My work is
inspired by the writings by African American Artists of the
Harlem Renaissance and contemporary African-American women
writers, as well as the artistry of African American
singers. In my work, these inspirations meld with my
southern upbringing and its spirituality to manifest in real
and tangible artistic forms. My creativity is nurtured by
the creative, improvisational revelations that happen as
by-products of long hours in the studio and artistic
contemplation.
