Post-Baccalaureate Art Education Program Requirements

 

         
Post-baccalaureate students must have at least 39 credits of liberal arts general education course work including:  ART EDUCATION CERTIFICATION
  Core ( 36  credits)
·         U.S. history survey course (required) – [Social Science]    Crs. Grd.
·         Developmental or Life Span Development [PSY 236]** ART 112  History of Western Art I 3  
·         Three (3) of the following four (4) areas listed below.    ART 113  History of Western Art II 3  
o         English   ART 120  Design I              3  
o         Mathematics,    ART 124 3-Dimensional Design 3  
o         Natural sciences   ART 130  Drawing I      3  
o         Foreign language   ART 240  Printmaking I 3  
    ART 252  Painting I 3  
**NOTE: Coursework in developmental or life span psychology (PSY 236) is also required and is a prerequisite for admission to the Professional Teaching Program. ART 260  Ceramics I 3  
  ART 261  Sculpture I 3  
  ART 263  Crafts I 3  
    ART 491  Aesthetic/Critical Dialogue About Art 3  
Admission to Professional Program   Art History course ( selected in consultation with advisor) 3  
Phase I: Pre-application.         
Prior to this application, students are required to:   Studio Specialization Area  (9 credits)    
     Passed PRAXIS I or be qualified to have this test waived. (Information is available Barnard room 248) 9 credits in one media area are required.

··    Passed Art 112, Art 113, and PSY 236

NOTE: Students who already hold a bachelor’s degree may pursue teacher certification through our post-baccalaureate programs. Although you must be admitted to the Graduate School, this program prepares students for teacher certification and does not result in a master’s degree.
